BULLDOGS TRAVEL BASEBALL
The goal of our program is to have fun and to develop effective physical, mental, emotional and inter-personal skills. Winning is important – it isn’t fun to lose – but we believe that if we do our job, the parents are supportive, and the players are dedicated, success will result on and off the field. Our program is open to both boys and girls.
Each year our teams begin play in the Spring (preceded by winter gym workouts from January through March), except the 8 year old team which begins in the summer after playing in our intramural Pony division. Tryouts for the 8 year old team are in June.
Players are expected to play in their age appropriate team. The age cutoff date is the date used by all major youth baseball organizations and tournaments: April 30th. Players must try-out and be chosen to a team. No player is guaranteed to be chosen, even if he or she played on a Bulldog team the prior year.
2018 Brooklyn Bulldogs Travel Baseball Tryouts: 9-13 year olds & College Showcase 14-17 year olds
For spring of 2018 we intend to field teams ages 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 (those ages as of April 30, 2018). After the high school season ends in May, our college showcase teams (ages 14 thru 17) will begin their tournaments. All Brooklyn Bulldog teams are managed by experienced, former college players and high school baseball coaches.
On Sunday, December 3 tryouts will be held in the gym at MS142 (610 Henry St) for all players interested in being selected to a 2018 Spring Bulldog team, ages 9-13. The College Showcase tryouts will either be December 2, 9 or 10 – we are awaiting gym confirmation. The home page of our website will have the for the final times for the 9-13 tryouts and the date, time, and location for the College Showcase tryouts posted no later than November 1: http://www.78pyc.org.
For the 9-13s, team selection will be announced sometime the week of December 12. Winter team workouts will begin in early January (two hours on Sundays and 1.5 hours of batting one weeknight a week). The College Showcase rosters will be announced within 10 days of those tryouts.
Season for 9-13s
Our spring orange teams will be playing competitive schedules, with an increased emphasis on tournament play for the 11s, 12s, and 13s during the spring. We have many experienced instructors to supplement team workouts who will be available the winter and spring for lessons. We are very protective of pitcher’s arms and do not permit players to pitch unless they have had instruction or a waiver from our director.
The spring season runs from April through either the first or second week of July for the 9, 10 & 11year old teams. The12s & 13s run through the end of July. We field an 8-year-old Bulldog team in the summer, not in the spring. Tryouts for the 8-year-old team will be in June, 2018 and will be announced late May or early June 2018.
College Showcase Program
Our showcase program is geared towards training the top athletes in the NYC area to prepare and expose their talents to hundreds of college coaches. Our mission is simple: develop great skills, build physical strength and agility, and prepare our players for elite tournament play and individual-player based college showcases.
Once the season begins (after public school ends) players will practice three to four days a week and play in tournaments every week until the beginning of August, when the individual player based showcases begin.
What sets us apart from most programs is the emphasis we place on multiple practices a week and advanced strength training. Practices will also include everything players need to do at individual players based college showcases. The older teams will also play in the fall of 2018 to increase exposure.

|Managers:||Current and Past High School Coaches and Former College Players.|
|Goal:||Fun and prepare players who want to play high school baseball.|
Team Training (January through mid-March):
- Gym workouts and conditioning usually on Sundays and one night a week.
- Early Spring: Internal League games and exhibition games as soon as weather permits.
Individualized training (January through mid-March and on-field sessions weekdays during the Spring season) by our staff of former division 1 college pitchers, experienced pitching coaches and high school coaches:
- Pitching Lessons
- Catcher Instruction
- Batting Instruction
Our program has matured to include non-parent, experienced managers and coaches for our Orange teams. These managers have advanced baseball experience including college and professional playing experience and coaching at the high school level. The base fee is around $500 depending what tournaments the parents wants to attend. that does not include uniform, tournament travel expenses, coach expenses, and other expenses. For more details, use our contact us form and select “Bulldogs Travel Baseball” in the Send Message To box. No player will be selected unless he/she commits to the practice, league and tournament schedule.
Our goal for the spring season is use our league play and practices to ready the players for their tournaments. Winning is less important than making all players ready to play their best at the season ending tournaments
- Mid-March through Mid-July (end of July for the 12 year old Orange team)
- Practice or game twice a week.
- Play games in local wood bat travel league (usually a doubleheader on one day in the weekend and one game during the week)
- Participate in at least two tournaments – local, regional, and national. Our 11 and 12 year old Orange teams may be playing a more extensive tournament schedule with practices during the week.
- Mid-July to the weekend prior to Labor Day weekend.
- Practice at least once a week.
- Play games in local wood bat travel league (usually a doubleheader on the weekend and one game during the week)
- Participate in tournaments based on player availability.
- We believe that fall should be used for skills and strength development so that arms can be rested and the body strengthened to support the rigors of the spring and summer seasons. As a result we do not play in fall leagues.
8 Year old team: To prepare our players properly, we have them play in our 8 year old Pony division of our recreational program where the players learn how to pitch, hit player pitching, and participate in a fun end of season tournament. We find this experience prepares them best for travel baseball. Before the end of the spring season, in mid-June, we hold tryouts for the 8 year old summer Bulldog team. The tryouts are announced by mass email, a posting on this website, and local community listings.
Tryouts are free. Once chosen to a team, a player must register within 24 hours in order to secure their spot. Details are noted in the acceptance email.
The 14 and 15 year old College Showcase teams tryout and are formed during the spring since most players are on their high school teams. However, for those who are 13 and 14 and not on their high school teams, we also form 13u and 14u spring teams. They follow all the same procedures as the 9-12 year old spring teams, however the expectation for the 13u team (since none are playing high school ball yet) is that they will be a College Showcase team in that their season will not end until the end of July and during July they will be playing a full tournament schedule. For more, see the College Showcase section below.
During the same period, the baseball recreational team registration begins (usually in mid-December) and ends the middle of January (the specific dates are posted on our site and in our mass emails and community listings). There are no tryouts or evaluations for the recreational program. Players are given the option to choose a specific recreation team when registering. We will place all who register on-time for a recreation team as long as there are enough coaches.
(14-17 year olds)
Goal: To prepare high school players (14yo+) to become desired by college baseball coaches of colleges they would like to attend.

- Help to determine best college showcases for each player to attend in context of experience, skills and grades.
Players must try out and be selected to the team – every year, regardless of whether they were on the team the prior year. These teams will play in a competitive league and very competitive tournaments in order to increase their skills for high school baseball and to make a positive showing to coaches of colleges these players may wish to attend. Specific time and attention will be devoted to preparing the players for college showcases.
In most cases the players should be on their high school teams (for 14s they should have at least significant travel baseball experience) and good grades (3.0+). Good grades are important!
