GENERAL INFORMATION

The league is registered with the NFL, which is therefore the source of the rules, jerseys, flag belts and flags.  We have modified the rules to suit our needs.  For more info about this NFL program, click on the NFL Logo above.

There are two divisions (the age cutoff date is August 31):  NFC-9 to 11 year olds (co-ed) and AFC 12-14 year olds (boys).

All games are about 1 hour and are played on the weekend.  The first weekend will be mid-September, the last weekend will be just before Thanksgiving in November.  2009 Schedules and Field Locations are posted.

GENERAL RULES

The game is played with 5 players on offense and 5 players on defense.  The total roster can consist of no more than 10 players.  The game is 40 minutes: halves are 20 minutes running time but in the last two minutes the clock is stopped for usual occurrences, such as out of bounds, penalties, incompletions, and dead balls.  There is no kicking game (kickoffs, punts, or field goals).  The teams start on their own 5 yard line and have 3 downs to get across the mid-field line and another 3 downs to score a touchdown.  The quarterback cannot run and rushing the quarterback is permitted but the rusher must start 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage (and may rush as soon as the ball is snapped).  A catch is legal as long as one foot of the receiver is in bounds at the time of the catch.  TRASH TALKING IS ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED AND MOUTH GUARDS ARE REQUIRED.  PANTS (LONG OR SHORT) MUST NOT HAVE POCKETS AND/OR BELT LOOPS.  There can be no moving blocks (basketball-type picks are permitted).   For the rules in detail and a rules cheatsheet, click here.

FIELDS

Van Voorhees and Washington Park.  Click on the Fields link in the header above for directions.

UNIFORMS & EQUIPMENT

The registration fee includes a jersey and the flag belt and flag.  We provide the footballs.  Players must provide their own shoes (plastic cleats are ok, no metal spikes), pants without pockets and/or belt loops (shorts are ok but only if they have NO pockets and/or belt loops), and MOUTH GUARDS are required.  Hats are optional and up to the coach.  AN IMPORTANT REMINDER: NO PLAYER WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY IF HE/SHE IS NOT WEARING A MOUTHPIECE AND IF HE/SHE IS WEARING PANTS (LONG OR SHORT) WITH POCKETS AND/OR BELT LOOPS.

FIRST AID INFO

Should it be required, we have a first aid kit and ice in the referee's bag at each field.   Also we suggest that you consider having your child wear goggles to avoid inadvertent scratches to the eyes.
